The Ross Investment Competition's panel includes professionals from the highest levels of the investment management industry.  We are extremely thankful for the time and expertise these professionals offer as both judges and speakers.      

2014 RIC JUDGES

 

Tom Bastian

Senior Portfolio Manager, Thomas Bastian is the lead manager for Invesco's large-cap relative value strategies. He joined Invesco in 2010. Prior to joining the firm, he was a portfolio manager for the US large-cap relative value products at Van Kampen, which he joined in 2003. Before Van Kampen, he was a portfolio manager at Eagle Asset Management and an analyst at Bank One. He entered the industry in 1997. Mr. Bastian earned a BA degree in accounting from St. John’s University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the Houston Society of Financial Analysts. 

 

John Conlin

Prior to joining NWQ, John was the Managing Partner of Tano Resource Management. Previously, he spent 5 years with Robertson Stephens where he was first Chief Operating Officer and then President and CEO. Before that, John worked at Credit Suisse First Boston for 15 years where he held various management positions around the world including Co-Head of European Equities, Co-Head of Emerging Markets, Director of European Equity Research and Co-Head of U.S. Institutional Sales.

 

John graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Economics, and received his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. John serves on the Board of Pope Resources (NASDAQ: POPE), the Executive Board of Victory Park Capital, the Corporate Advisory Board of the University of Michigan School of 

Business, and the University of Rochester Endowment Investment Committee. 

 

Brian S. Matuszak, CFA

Brian serves as a Senior Equity Analyst at Munder Capital Management. Since 2002 Mr. Matuszak has analyzed equity securities for Munder Capital’s mid-capitalization core growth, mid-cap growth and small-cap/mid-cap blend equity strategies. He is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Detroit. Mr. Matuszak holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from University of Michigan. 

 

Tory Moore

Tory Moore is Triga Capital’s Founder and Principal. Prior to founding Triga Capital, Mr. Moore served as Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst at Fiduciary Asset Management. Tory's prior experience also includes serving as a Research Analyst at Greycourt & Company and Telemus Capital Partners. Mr. Moore has a B.S. in Economics from Trinity College, an MBA in Leadership and Marketing from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, and is CFA charter pending.

 

Steven Rodriguez

Steven Rodriguez serves as a Portfolio Manager for American Century Investments®, a premier investment manager headquartered in Kansas City, Mo. He works in the company's New York office. He currently manages the firm's domestic and global real estate funds. Mr. Rodriguez joined American Century Investments in 2009 from Barclays Capital (formerly Lehman Brothers) where he was an Associate Vice President, responsible for conducting fundamental equity research and analysis on REIT securities, as well as analyzing real estate industry trends. Previously, Steven was an associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. Mr. Rodriguez has a Bachelor's in Economics and a Master's in Accounting from the University of Michigan.

 

 

Michael Sesser, CFA

Michael Sesser, CFA is an equity analyst and portfolio manager with Deutsche Asset Management. He has been covering small and mid cap health care stocks for the Deutsche funds since graduating from the Ross MBA program in 2009. He was named portfolio manager of the Deutsche Small Cap Core fund in 2013. He has a B.A. in Ethics, Politics & Economics from Yale University, and worked in teaching, economics, and data analytics roles in between undergrad and business school.

 

Chris Warner, CFA

Chris Warner serves as a Co-Portfolio Manager for the Fundamental SMID Cap and Mid Cap Growth portfolios at Wells Capital Management. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Mr. Warner worked as an Equity Research Associate following the enterprise software, systems management and data storage industries for Citigroup in San Francisco. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA in Finance and Corporate Strategy from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Mr. Warner is also a CFA charterholder. 

 

Brian Woglom

Brian Woglom is a vice president and portfolio manager for American Century Investments®, a premier investment manager headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. Brian co-manages the firm’s U.S. Value Equity, U.S. Mid Cap Value and U.S. Equity Market Neutral Value Strategies and provides fundamental equity research and analysis for U.S. Value Equity, U.S. Value Yield, U.S. Mid Cap Value and U.S. Equity Market Neutral Value strategies. He has been a member of the team managing these strategies since joining American Century Investments in 2005. Previously, Brian was an investment analyst for Argo Partners and an analyst for the portfolio management unit of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He has worked in the financial industry since 1998. Brian earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Amherst College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. 


 

 

 
Matthew D. Finn, CFA
Keynote Speaker​ and Judge
 

Matt Finn is a Senior Portfolio Manager at Thrivent Asset Management, a $100 billion investment management firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He is a Lead Portfolio Manager of the firm’s Small Cap Core Portfolios and co manages the firm’s Small Cap Growth Portfolios. Prior to this assignment, Mr. Finn managed the Thrivent Large Cap Value fund for ten years.

 

Mr. Finn was formerly the lead manager of the Large Cap Value fund at U.S. Bank and also headed the Growth and Income Group for Evergreen Investment Management in Boston, Massachusetts from 1998-2001.  Prior to Evergreen Matt was a manager at Advantus Capital Management, a subsidiary of Minnesota Mutual Life, leading its Large Cap Value Fund and earning a Morningstar 4/5 star rating from 1994 to 1998.

 

Mr. Finn was born in Detroit, Michigan and currently resides with his family in Woodbury, Minnesota.  He earned a BA in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Michigan in 1990.
