JUDGES
Daniel Bloomgarden

Daniel Bloomgarden currently serves as the Equity Analyst for Consumer Discretionary sector at Schroders. Mr. Bloomgarden started his post MBA career with Citigroup covering beverage stocks, and then became a junior partner at a hedge fund. He then moved on to SAC Capital Advisors LP, a large hedge fund founded by Stephen A. Cohen, and also served as Vice President and Senior Retail Analyst at Alliance Bernstein LP advising on firm's portfolio managers on winning retail stocks. Mr. Bloomgarden has an MBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.

Josh Byrne

Josh Byrne joined Putnam as a Summer MBA Intern in Equity Research in 1992 and as a full time analyst in 1993. Josh moved to the International Equity Group in 1994 and lived in London for nearly 3 years. In 1997 Josh became the Co-Portfolio Manager for the Putnam International Voyager Fund (Int'l small cap). In 2000 Josh became the co-lead PM on Putnam International Equity fund. At its peak between the mutual fund similar Institutional accounts Josh co-managed nearly $70billion in assets. In 2003 Josh became Co-CIO of all International Equities at Putnam. With oversight responsibility for all International Equity strategies including Europe, Asia, Emerging Markets and style products like Int'l value and growth. Josh also oversaw the equity efforts in offices in London, Tokyo and Singapore along with the International research effort. During this time Josh also continued to manage portfolio, relocated to London for nearly two additional years and for a spell served on the firm's executive committee. Josh left Putnam in 2011. Currently Josh is Director of Research at Westwood Global a boutique Emerging Markets Equity firm.

 

 Steven D. Krichbaum, CFA

Steven Krichbaum is a vice president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc.  He is a research analyst in the U.S. Equity Division following utility and midstream companies as well as rating agencies, financial guarantors, and mortgage insurance companies. Mr.Krichbaum is a vice president and Investment Advisory Committee member of the New Era Fund, Small-Cap Stock Fund, and Small-Cap Value Fund. He joined T. Rowe Price in 2007 after serving as a summer intern with the firm in 2006, covering the financial guaranty industry. Prior to this, Steven was employed as an economist and statistical analyst for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. He earned a B.A. in economics, cum laude, from Pomona College and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Mr. Krichbaum has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

 
Elizabeth Bernstein

Elizabeth Bernstein currently serves as a Senior Equity Analyst for Invesco responsible for roughly $900 million in invested capital. Ms. Bernstein focuses on the healthcare industry conducting fundamental, bottoms-up analysis of healthcare companies and monitoring overall healthcare trends. Prior to joining Invesco, Ms. Bernstein was the global healthcare and consumer analyst with Allianz Global Investors Capital. Following her graduation from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business with her MBA, Ms. Bernstein was an equity research associate and later VP for the biopharmaceutical teams at Banc of America Securities and Wachovia. She has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

 
Jeremy Modell

Jeremy is the Managing Partner of Clarkston Capital Partners and serves on the Firm’s Investment Committee.  Mr. Modell has more than 17 years of investment experience in portfolio management and investment research.  He most recently spent ten years at R.H. Bluestein & Company, as Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of the company.  Responsibilities included portfolio management, equity and fixed income research, business development, and trading.  Prior to R.H. Bluestein, Mr. Modell served as Vice President at Smith Barney Inc.  In addition, Mr. Modell worked as a credit analyst for Time Square Capital Management in New York City.

Mr. Modell serves on the Board of the Karmanos Cancer Partners, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, and Franklin Hills Country Club. Mr. Modell graduated with a B.A. in Business Economics from Brown University and a M.B.A. in Finance from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.


Chris Warner, CFA
Chris Warner serves as a co-portfolio manager for the Fundamental SMID Cap and Mid Cap Growth portfolios at Wells Capital Management. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Mr. Warner worked as an equity research associate following the enterprise software, systems management and data storage industries for Citigroup in San Francisco. He began his investment industry career in 2002. Mr. Warner holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois, Champaign, and a master’s degree in business administration–finance and corporate strategy from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has earned the right to use the CFA designation.
 
Karthik Radhakrishnan, CFA

Karthik Radhakrishnan is a Senior Analyst covering health care and biotech industries. Prior to joining ING U.S. Investment Management in May 2007, Mr. Radhakrishnan worked as a Senior Research Analyst at Eagle Asset Management covering health care. Before that, he was a Senior Equity Analyst for Diamond Capital Management, part of The Dow Chemical Company. He began his financial career at Latona Associates as a Corporate Finance Associate. He received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and a Masters of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also received an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan Business School. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

 
Justin Golden

Mr. Golden is a Managing Partner at Lake Hill Capital Management LLC and is responsible for global expansion and firm operations. Prior to Lake Hill, Mr. Golden was Head of Institutional Equity Derivative Sales at Bank of America in London, helped build the firm Macro Risk Advisors, LLC and was an Equity Derivative Analyst at Deutsche Bank. Mr. Golden has worked in equity derivatives for 10 years and has over 14 years of investment experience. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in finance and corporate strategy from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

David Miller

David Miller is a senior portfolio manager and co-founder of Catalyst Mutual Funds.   Mr. Miller was also a trader with UBS, working on the equity derivatives desk and the CEO of MovieDaze Media Group, a search engine marketing company that he co-founded in 2003 and sold in 2006.  He received a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

 
 
Doug Chase
Keynote Speaker​

​Doug Chase is currently the Founder and Manager of Ascendancy Capital Management LLC.  The hedge fund it advises began operation in March 2008 and through September of 2012 had earned a return in excess of 145%, before fees, since inception.  After earning a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley and an MBA, with High Distinction, from the Michigan (Ross) Business School, Doug began his professional investing career as an Equity Analyst for Fidelity Investments.  While an analyst, he began managing his first mutual fund in 1994 and into 2002 he progressed through many analyst and portfolio manager assignments, including as an Assistant Manager on the Magellan Fund from 1997-1999, a fund that surpassed over $100 Billion in assets in 1999.  During these years, Doug managed or co-managed several funds rated four- and five-stars by Morningstar.  In 2002, Doug accepted a new challenge as the Co-Founder of the Boston Office for American Express Asset Management (now AmeriPrise).  Over time the co-founders of this office built out an administrative team, an analyst team of over twenty, had systems development in house, and added in-house trading capabilities.  At one point Doug was simultaneously managing 11 long-only funds and co-managing a $400M hedge fund.  Doug later served on the Board of Directors/Advisors for three private companies, while also developing and teaching a course for the MBA program at Ross beginning in 2007.  In 2010 Doug was made an Adjunct Professor by Ross, and he tries to lecture on campus at least once per year.  He is excited to be selected as Keynote Speaker for this event and looks forward to discussing with students his career experiences and observations.
