2015 RIC Judges


Jeremy Modell

Jeremy (J.J.) Modell is Managing Partner of Clarkston Capital Partners, LLC. His current responsibilities include equity analysis and research, co-management of client accounts, oversight of the investment process and client service activities. J.J. is also a member of Clarkston’s investment committee. J.J.’s history in the finance industry spans twenty years. He began his career at Smith Barney, Inc. as a Financial Consultant. His passion for asset management led him on a path to the University of Michigan Business School (class of 2001), where he studied financial statement analysis and accounting. J.J. worked as a research analyst for Times Square Capital Management in New York City and then spent over a decade at R.H. Bluestein & Company in Birmingham, MI. At R.H. Bluestein, Mr. Modell commenced his career as an Equity Analyst and was shortly promoted to Portfolio Manager and ultimately to Managing Director. J.J. joined Clarkston as a Partner in September 2011. J.J.’s background in fundamental equity research includes hundreds of written reports and on-site company visits.  J.J. graduated with a B.A. in Business Economics from Brown University in 1994.


Mike Hanus

Mike Hanus is currently a Portfolio Manager at North Peak Asset Management where he runs a multi-strategy, multi-manager inflation hedging mutual fund.  Prior to joining North Peak Mike was a Vice President at Wellington Management Company.  Before joining Wellington, Mike was a Senior Vice President at Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments company, where he led the firm’s Hedge Fund business and was responsible for the design, development and launch of Pyramis’ Long/Short strategies, including Market Neutral and 130/30.  Mike received an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and his BSBA in Finance from the University of Richmond.  He is also a CFA charterholder.


Brian Matuszak

Brian Matuszak, who has 16 years of investment industry experience, analyzes equity securities for Munder Capital Management’s mid-capitalization core growth, mid-cap growth, focused small/mid-cap growth and small-cap/mid-cap blend equity strategies. He assists with portfolio strategy, sector analysis, stock selection, and the monitoring of companies owned in the portfolio. Mr. Matuszak’s sector focus is on financials, health care and utilities. Munder Capital Management was acquired by Victory Capital in October 2014. Munder Capital Management is a Victory Capital investment franchise.

Before becoming an equity analyst, Mr. Matuszak served two years as an internal wholesaler for Munder. Prior to joining Munder in 2000, he was a financial advisor for Prudential Securities. Mr. Matuszak also has experience as a micro-economics instructor at Macomb Community College.

Mr. Matuszak earned both a B.B.A. in finance and accounting (with distinction), and an M.S. in applied economics from the University of Michigan. He is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Detroit.


Brian Woglom

Brian Woglom is a vice president and portfolio manager for American Century Investments®, a premier investment manager headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.  Brian co-manages the firm’s U.S. Value Equity, U.S. Mid Cap Value and U.S. Equity Market Neutral Value Strategies and provides fundamental equity research and analysis for U.S. Value Equity, U.S. Value Yield, U.S. Mid Cap Value and U.S. Equity Market Neutral Value strategies.  He has been a member of the team managing these strategies since joining American Century Investments in 2005.  Previously, Brian was an investment analyst for Argo Partners and an analyst for the portfolio management unit of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.  He has worked in the financial industry since 1998.  Brian earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Amherst College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.  He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute.


Michael P. Finkelstein, CFA

Mike Finkelstein is an equity analyst and portfolio manager with NorthPointe Capital.  He has followed small cap equites at NorthPointe since obtaining an MBA from the University of Michigan in 2002. Previous work experience includes private equity investing and public accounting with Ernst & Young, LLP.  Mike also holds a BBA degree from the University of Michigan and is a CFA charterholder.


David Miller

David Miller is a senior portfolio manager and co-founder of Catalyst Capital Advisors LLC. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Small-Cap Insider Buying Fund, Hedged Insider Fund, Insider Buying Fund, Insider L/S Fund, Activist Investor Fund and Insider Income Fund since their inceptions. Prior to founding the Advisor, Mr. Miller was the CEO of Investment Catalyst, an investment newsletter he founded in 2005. The Investment Catalyst newsletter worked to identify undervalued stocks with a near term catalyst for appreciation. Mr. Miller was a trader with UBS, working on the equity derivatives desk from July 2002 until December 2002. Mr. Miller was the CEO of MovieDaze Media Group, a search engine marketing company that he co-founded in 2003 and sold in 2006. He received a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School and an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business.


Richard Consul

Richard Consul is head of mortgage-backed securities and interest rate trading for all fixed income strategies and a member of the core fixed income portfolio management team overseeing $5.2BN in AUM. The Munder Fixed Income team was renamed INCORE Capital Management on April 1, 2015. INCORE Capital Management is a Victory Capital investment franchise. Mr. Consul has ten years of investment industry experience and joined Munder in 2010. He was previously with Bank of America in San Francisco and London where he was a foreign exchange currency trader and, with DTE Energy as a futures/options trader specializing in crude oil for their $1.5 billion internal commodities hedge fund portfolio. Mr. Consul earned a B.B.A. in Finance with a minor in Mathematics and an Financial Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the International Association of Financial Engineers. Mr. Consul is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Detroit.


Kyle Sable

Kyle Sable is a Principal with Banbury Partners, a Charlotte-based long/short equity hedge fund manager he helped launch in 2014. Banbury manages institutional capital with a focus on high quality, free-cash flow generative businesses on the long side and businesses facing increased competition or possessing “broken business models” on the short side. The fund has a multi-year timeframe for its investments and believes management quality is a critical factor in stock selection. Mr. Sable, along with the bulk of the fund’s investment team, has an investing heritage rooted in Tiger Management-affiliated funds. He was previously with Bloom Tree Partners in New York and Matrix Capital Management in Waltham, MA after starting his investing career in private equity at Bain Capital. Mr. Sable holds a BBA with High Distinction from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.


Steven Krichbaum

Steven Krichbaum is an associate portfolio manager for the Capital Appreciation Strategy. He is a vice president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. Mr. Krichbaum has eight years of investment experience, all of which have been with T. Rowe Price. He joined the firm in 2007 after serving as a summer intern with the firm in 2006, covering the financial guaranty industry. Prior to this, he was employed as an economist and statistical analyst for the Colorado Department of Labor and Equipment. Mr. Krichbaum earned a B.A. in economics, cum laude, from Pomona College and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business. He has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
